Stardate:2406.06.20 (USS Nimitz - Schoolteacher's Quarters - Katie Troi - 0530) Katie woke up early. They were due to reach Geneva today. For whatever reason she couldn't sleep, and stretched. She and Simbel had had a very nice evening together the previous night, but he had an early morning shift, so they hadn't spent the night together. Jennah was staying very close to her mother, watching her very carefully, and Vanyssa's youngest, the baby, was safe on Betazed. "Too much nervous energy, Katharynne!" Katie said out loud, just to hear the sound of her voice. Then she had an idea. "Computer, where is the Captain?" =^= The Captain is in the Gym =^= Katie smiled and changed quickly, picking up her gym bag on the way out of her quarters. It had been a couple of days since she worked out, and she hadn't had a chance to take Captain Sash up on his offer of working out. (USS Nimitz - Gym - Captain Devan Sash- 0535) The morning time was Sash's personal time. his workout was the one thing that he hated to miss out on. It not only helped keep in his currrent physical condition, but it also helped to keep him focused, through out the day. He just felt better because of it. And after this past month of travelling at impulse power, he needed to feel better. He had already begun with calisthenics, to get the blood and sweat flowing. Then he had done his weight routine. Now he was on the mats working on some Kata work. It was pretty rare for anyone to join him this early in the morning so when he heard the door open, it caught him a little by surprise. Katie walked in to see the Captain working on a form of martial arts on the mats. She dropped her gym bag next to the mats, then sank down onto them in a split, stretching out. "Good morning, Captain." She said pleasantly, stretching out her back and legs. "Would you mind working out against me?" She asked, switching to the other leg. She smiled devilishly, keeping her thoughts to herself. Sash stopped and wiped the sweat from his eyes. He smiled at the teacher. "So you want to teach me a lesson, do you? Just remember, I'm old and brittle." "Old, Captain?" She asked, standing up and doing some more stretches. "You aren't that old. And as for brittle, well... I doubt that very much too." She finished, standing in front of him, her arms loose at her side. She nodded to the Captain, indicating her readiness to begin. It would be very interesting to see how this turned out. David weighed more than her, but was of the same height. The Captain, on the other hand, weighed more and was taller. "Maybe after this we can try one of David's battle simulations." She said with a smile as she began her attack. The more Sash had heard about the past loves of his people the more he had become intrigued with what they had done. Now, hearing about these "battle simulations" peaked his curiosity. The attack was deliberate and obvious. Sash knew she was simply testing the boundries. But the captain noticed something else. the move was well timed, and had some power behind it. He paried the the attack away easily and countered with a roundhouse kicked aimed for Katies back. Katie jumped out of the way, then moved slowly closer, ducking under his punch, and aiming for his kneecaps with her kick. She felt him move, then adjusted her attack, aiming for his face with her fist. She was fast and her punch nearly connected. He whipped his neck back just in time. A slight look of approval came across his face. "Not bad," he said, "not bad at all. Should we bump it up a notch?" "What do you mean?" Katie asked, backing off a bit, to take a drink out of her bottle. "Do you want to go on the holodeck or would you rather use weapons?" She brushed her short hair back away from her face. "I don't want to hurt you." She said, concerned. That was it. Sash could no longer hold it in. He let out a loud laugh. "I know, that someone my age is fragile. Be gentle with me. " The headed out of the gym and entered the holodeck. "Did you have something in mind?" Katie nodded. Then she turned to the Captain. "Sir, how likely is it that I will hurt you?" She asked. "I don't know much about your species. Vanyssa said once that you were built for war. Is that true?" Sash smiled. "You're going to make me reveal my secrets aren't you? The truth is, it's very doubtful that you could hurt in any meaningful manner. It is true that we were created for a war. We were genetically engineered and biochemically altered to be able to withstand more than most ordinary beings could even hope to survive. I also tend to heal rather quickly. It doesn't mean that it doesn't hurt, because it does, believe me. I just recover faster. My body is also conditioned as a weapon. I would hesitate before I used my full capabilities on anyone, least of all a friend." "Computer, load Dark-Marine-04." A jungle sprang to life around them. Katie walked over to the rack and picked up a longsword. She hefted it to get a good feel for the weight. "Captain, we are hunting Cardassians. Would you like to go first?" She said with a smile, gesturing with her sword, which had become an extension of her arm. "Cardasians?!" Sash was surprised. The notion of hunting a sentient species, even the Cardassians, seemed so odd. "Well, at least I won't have to worry about hurting a friend." Looked over his choice of weapons. There was quite an assortment. Everything from an old Earth Claymore sword to a Klingon Bat'leth. Since this washis first time in this program he thought he'd play it safe and chose what looked like a thick, six foot spear. With his weapon in hand he walked into the jungle. He wasn't being to careful about the path he was choosing, or at least that was how it appeared. However, at one point he stopped Katie before she walked past an area that he had just been by. Using his spear he touched the ground, setting of a trap that would have proven most unfortunate to anyone trapped in the barbed netting. That was when the first Cardassians appeared. They too seemed to have hand to hand style weapons. The first Cardassian attack Sash with a sword similar to Katie's. Sash paried the blows with his spear, using it as a staff. A second Cardassian jumped from behind a bush and Sash reacted instantaneously with a slash from the spear and of his staff, slicing through the Cardassian's body armor. The second Cardassian realed back in surprise as the first pressed his attack. Sash steped into the attack and thrust the spear through his attackers throat. The Cardassian fell to the ground, and disappeared. Katie turned around and saw three running at her. She fought with her sword, ducking and slashing. When the last one was dead, she turned to Sash. "This is a recreation of one of the Bajoran outposts that was ... infested ... with Cardassians. We are 'playing' the part of the..." Katie turned to see a Cardassian running at her, sword held in front like a lance. She jumped back, kicking upward with one leg, knocking the sword out of his hand, ramming her sword into the Cardassian's chest. He fell back, dead, and then disappeared. She looked up at the Captain, taking his hand. "...the Bahjoran?" Sash finished her sentence for her. "At least I hope we're the Bajorans." He helped Katiee back to her feet in time to see six more Cardassians enter the clearing they had found themselves in. "Duck," he said, and began swinging his spear over his head to keep the Cardassians at a distance. He manged to catch one and send him back a little. Then he suddenly released the spear impaling one of the attackers on a nerby tree. Seeing that he was disarmed, the others decided it was a good time to attack. Sash rolled between two of the Cardassians, who barely missed him with their weapons. As he rolled into a more upright position he kicked back and took out one of the Cardassian's knee. There was a sickening snap and he fell to the ground howling in pain. Sash rolled over to him and picked up his sword in time to block the others attack. He grabbed the seconds arm and twisted quickly. The Cardassian went flying across the clearing and landed badly on his back. The first was trying to get back to his feet, but Sash fell back on him driving his full weight into the Cardassian's abdomen, with his elbow. "This is kind of fun," Sash called over to Katie. "It's been a while since I've been able to let go like this." Katie nodded and the two of them plunged ever deeper into the jungle. As the two fought deeper and deeper, more and harder opponents came at them, until they reached the temple. Katie and Sash walked in to see a Cardassian General holding a knife to a Bajoran priest's throat. "Come closer, Bajoran Scum, and I will kill the one you were sent to rescue." And around them, many cardassian warriors came out of the shadows. Katie looked around her, assessing the possibilities. "Well Captain." She said in english. "Any suggestions?" She kept her legs slightly bent and apart, holding her sword like it was a gift from a god. Sash surveyed the situation quickly. "This really doesn't look to good for our friend there." His right hand moved slowly around his back. He had picked up small knife from one of the opponents he had fell earlier. He wrapped his hand around the hilt and with a quick movement threw it. The knife soared through the air and imbedded itself into the generals hand that was holding his own knife. With a shriek, the hand openned and the threatening blade fell to the ground. Unfortunately, at the same instant, the surrounding warriors all began a simultaneous attack. Katie ducked, swung, and managed to kill four of them before another four converged on her, pinning her to the ground. She looked up as the knife came towards her and shouted "Computer, Freeze program!" She got up and looked around, and saw Sash shaking sweat out of his eyes. She leaned against the rock face, shaking with the exertion and trying to catch her breath. When she found her voice, she looked up at the Captain's concerned face. "I guess next time I shouldn't start with the hardest one, hmm ?" She asked, pulling her hair away from the back of her neck trying to cool off. "Especially when I haven't practiced with someone in... months." she said, finding it hard to believe. "What did you think of it ?" Sash breathed a little heavily, as he managed to free himself from the entourage of Cardassians that had been holding him. His muscles ached and his shoulder was throbbing from a blow, but oddly enough, he felt pretty good. "Not to bad," he replied. "We maight have fared better if I hadn't lost my weapon. It definately gives me something to work towards. Computer, end program." He streched arms and shoulders as the scene began to dissolve. Then he headed towards the arch and the exit. "Perhaps we can make this a regular event." "I would like that." She said, smiling. "Would you like to get some breakfast together, Captain? For whatever reason, I'm very hungry." She grinned as they reached the exit. The two stood outside the holodeck, looking at each other for a moment. Katie blushed and turned away. "I shouldn't impose, Sir." She finished, realizing that this was the Captain, her Captain. Sash smiled at Katie's embarrassment. "If you think asking me to eat breakfast with you is an imposition, then I have definitely lead people to the wrong conclusion about me." As if to emphasize the point, Sash's stomach let out a loud gurgle. He started to laugh. "I think breakfast right about now would be perfect." At that he lead the way towards the mess hall. He didn't have gold press latinum to buy himself a ticket,so he decided to ask his friend who was traveling that way if he can get him to the station. After a certain ammount of time, his old cardassian friend, gul Evar booked a passenger ticked for Tom on his ship. Evar's ship was cloaked when he beamed Tom aboard, he didn't know what class of ship it was. After a lunch with his old friend, Tom decided to take a nap. Sound of the Red Alert have woken Tom up from his bed. He was called to the bridge. When he entered the bridge, Evar showed him forward, on the viewscreen - it was Geneva, but Tom wasn't thinking about his assigment, he was raised by a Cardassian, he raised up eating Cardassian food, and he loved Cardassian ships, and also he knowed them alot. After a short examination of the bridge size and materials used to create it, it was pretty obvious what type of ship it was - Keldon Advanced, used only for Obsidian Order missions, it was first ship that Tom served on. 'Kentara' -how was the ship called, droped the cloak. After a couple of seconds Geneva raised it's shields, turned on her's weapons and started hailing them. Gul Evar didn't speak they allowed Tom to transport to Geneva. "Hey, old friend, so this is Goodbye, wright?"-started Evar. "Well, I guess it must be, we are now on the opposite sides!"-explained Tom. "Well, aside that, you are always welcome in the Obsidian Order, and, of course, on my ship!"-said Evar while smiling. "Thank you, Evar. Long live the Cardassia. Goodbye."-and after looking Evar for some second wondering if he did good on leaving his best friend, the man that saved his live three time, leaving alone and starting a new career on the Federation. "I'll survive!"- Tom talking to himself, while Cardassian officier started transporting him to the Geneva. (Starbase Geneva, Upper Pilon 3, ASC/TAC Tom Slytherwald, 0948) "Welcome abord, Ensign."-started some woman. "Thank you m'am"-said Tom while looking it the padd that someone left to him. It was a number of his room, and a little signature 'from old friend'. Tom smiled while thinking about good old times he spent on Kentara. After he settled in his room, he asked the computer where is Nimitz. The computer responded that Nimitz is traveling at full impulse, exactly 0.74 times speed of light. And at his current speed, it will arrive in approximitely three hours. "Good. A few hours for relaxing. Well, let's see what holoprograms they got here!"-said Tom while exiting the room. One arm above his head and the other pinned beneath him. He couldn't believe his luck this past week. Nothing had gone his way. The warp coils had depolarized, the anti-matter injectors had jammed, and the phase inducers had been thrown out of alignment. To top all that off, they had a nacelle out of alignment, which alone made traveling at warp risky. And now, he had managed to get himself stuck inside a console he really had no business being in in the first place. ~Just had to try and impress the new guy didn't you?~ "How are things going down here Lt., Ensign? He asked, gesturing to the nets and taking a place on the other side of Jason. "I'm sorry I don't know your name, other than Ensign. Mine is Riven." (reply dema, anyone else wanna come play?) "Vanyssa has talked about me, has she?"  He seemed somewhat pleased by this. "No need to apologize, youngling."  And he grinned. "Do you know Vanyssa well?"  He asked, gesturing to the nets and taking a place on the other side of Jason.  "I'm sorry I don't know your name, other than Ensign. Mine is Riven." "Mine is Jason" He said "And I only talked to Vanyssa once, and it didn't felt that comfortable." Jason lowered his head "Two mistakes in two hours... " (reply Riven) Jason got ready to play and threw the ball to Riven "Why don't you start? after all, age before beauty" And Jason grinned, ready to play like Riven was an enemy." (posted by Anthony Struelens) Stardate:2406.06.20 (USS Nimitz, Main Engineering, Lt.(sg) Zzt, 1335) Zzt was standing over the Master Display console his eyes looking over the various readings being displayed. Around him his engineering staff hurried about checking and double checking their readings. They were about to attempt a repolerization of the ships warp coils, a delicate procedure to say the least. Zzt had put the new ACEO Ensign O'Neill in charge of the engineering teams working in the nacelles, while Zzt monitored the entire procedure from Main Engineering. So far the man had proven himself very capable, but Zzt trusted no one with his engines. "Get static impulse restrictor realigned," Zzt yelled, clicking his claws together before pointing at one of his staff. "And watch annular warp conduit. Not want it over load." Zzt tapped his comm-badge as he looked back at his read outs. "Zzt to O'Neill. You about ready there? Almost ready here." (Reply O'Neill) "Make sure double check connections," Zzt said, typing in another set of commands. Got to get frequency just right or we risk blowing the EPS relays." (Reply O'Neill) Zzt closed the channel with O'Neill and opened anther channel. "Engineering to Bridge. We almost ready down here. Lt. Falthgood ready up there to monitor the warp shell?" (Reply Falthgood or bridge) Zzt nodded and licked his fangs. Attempting to form a quantum subharmonic warp shell around the ship to force the warp coils to re-polarize was risky, but Zzt had faith in his and his staffs ability to pull it off. Lt. Falthgood as the leading expert on subspace mechanics was monitoring the exercise from the bridge to make sure they didn't rupture the sub-space border in the process, allowing sub-space to spill into normal space. A VERY bad situation indeed. The minuets ticked by as the last checks were made to the ships warp drive and power distribution conduits to the warp coils far above in the ships nacelles. Finally, everything was ready. Captain Sash gave the go ahead from the bridge and Zzt's paws moved over his console. "Initiating powering up of warp core," Zzt said into the open comm-channel between himself, the bridge, and Ensign O'Neill up in the nacelles. Slowly the thrum of the warp core filled the ship, till it could be felt through out the ship as Zzt brought the core to 100% power output. "Core at 100% capacity. Ready to divert to warp coils." The theory was that a single powerful burst of energy thrust into the warp coils would cause the quantum subharmonic warp shell to form for a nano-second, forcing a re-polerizartion of the coils before the warp shell dissipated. It sounded simple enough, but it was anything BUT simple. "DIverting power now," Zzt said, as his claw pressed the button, then quickly moved to power down the warp core. Zzt suddenly got a terrible sinking feeling in his gut. ~Oh, no!~ "Something wrong," Zzt said, into the still open com-channel. Almost as if on cue, the ship shook violently. Zzt's eye scanned his board as alarms started to sound. "By the Holy Goddess," Zzt exclaimed, his paws moving over his board. The warp core wasn't shutting down. Power was still being feed to the warp coils and the warp shell was threatening to rupture the sub-space barrier. Zzt's paws danced over his console, attempting an emergency shut down of the core, but something was wrong. The computer was sluggish, as if... ~No!~ With blinding speed for someone of his mass, Zzt left his console and charged over to the still roaring warp core. Throwing open an emergency wall panel, Zzt jettisoned the warp core into space. Suddenly, the ship shook again, when the warp core exploded outside the ship, a lot more violent than the last one. Miles was thrown from his exploding console, and got a nice bruise on his arm from his impact on the floor. He got back up and checked what went wrong. ~It says that the connections were off by a few millicochranes, but that's impossible, I triple checked them. Re-polarizing the warp coils, at first thought, appears to be a simmple procedure, but Sash knew that it was wrought with peril. One slight miscalculation could spell disaster. Especially this close to a starbase. But Sash had great confidance in his chief engineer. if there was one thing that the captain had learned over the past month it was that Zzt may be a little clumsy in a social gathering, but he was one of the best engineers he'd ever seen. Infact Sash had once mentioned to Vanyssa that he figured Zzt could build a warp core out a spool of thread, a communicator and a pocket knife. The voice of the CEO came over the comm channel. =^=Engineering to Bridge. We almost ready down here. Lt. Falthgood ready up there to monitor the warp shell?=^= Falthgood replyed that he was ready. All eyes turned to look at Sash. "Proceed as planned Lt," the captain said. =^=Initiating powering up of warp core.=^= There was a moment of silance. Sash took the moment to whisper a silent prayer to a deity he had ceased to believe in a long time ago. He could feel the hum of energy through the floor plating. =^=Core at 100% capacity. Ready to divert to warp coils.=^= "Whenever you're ready Lt," Sash said. =^=Diverting power now.=^= Sash could feel something wrong even before he heard anything. There was a subtle change in the power flow that he could feel through the floor. =^=Something wrong.=^= Sash turned to Falthgood, "Lt., report. Ensign Tannasg?" (reply Falthgood, Tannag) "Red Alert," the captain shouted as the ship began to shudder as Sash could feel a power build up. The ship bucked almost throwing Sash from his seat. =^=By the Holy Goddess.=^= "Ensign Kateb," Sash called over, "get a detail down to engineering, now." The ship began to shudder as Sash could feel a power build up. The ship bucked almost throwing Sash from his seat. Suddenly the shaking stopped and the lights dimmed and come back up. "What is going on?" Sash tried to remain calm. Then he saw something in the view screen. He pointed to it. "There, lower left quadrant of the view screen. Tannasg, magnify." As the image changed on the view screen he could clearly see what appeared to be their warp core. ~What the...~ Sash hit his com badge. "Sash to Engineering, Lt. Zzt report.
